BASTARD OF BAATOR
Oil on canvas

This is a 24" x 36" oil painting that was done for a book, written by Heath Strickland, called Bastard of Baator. The idea for this image comes from the first chapter. In it, Desmotet is trying to "fix" the king's child, who has been cursed and damned. The child is a monstrosity; out of proportion, deformed, and inhuman. Desmotet is taking children from the empire and using their parts to try and bring a normality to the king's only heir.

I haven't finished reading it yet, but so far it has been awesome. This book is so different from the other fantasy books out there. It is nice to see some new thinking.

Here is what the publisher says::
Enter the world of Sounter, where all was black and white until a distorted devil from the lowest depths of Baator disrupted the balance. Witness a nation’s transformation as the lines between good and evil become forever blended into one.

The Bastard of Baator guides us through a unique and realistic world with no clear vision of right or wrong where devils become saints and religion is permanently engraved into politics. The Yetimasters are a group of young adventurers that wish to seek out more adventure than their utopian kingdom can provide. Little did they know, discovering the secrets behind such a perfect land would be the adventure of a life time as well as a horrific nightmare. Many worlds will be examined on the path to saving Sounter, including an in depth look at Hell itself. It is in this examination of Baator which creates conflict among the Yetimasters who become confused as to whether they should save their kingdom or help it along its path. The Bastard enjoys webs of deceit, convoluted mysteries and in depth studies of evil. This land is not for the weak of heart or easily offended!
